Child Health Project (CHEP)

The Child Health Project (CHEP) is a community outreach project working towards alleviating the health plight of low-income communities in Uganda. It was launched in 2019 and has since impacted 875 beneficiaries.

The project’s major aim is to bridge the accessibility gap faced by low-income communities in accessing quality and equitable health care in Uganda. Dr. Kyamummi Irene, the CHEP Team Leader, was awarded the XI Harambee Prize 2020, a grant worth thirteen thousand Euros (13,000€) in recognition for her unwavering efforts towards promoting health standards among disadvantaged groups.

Through this grant, Dr. Kyamummi Irene has since been able to effectively and efficiently actualize the extension of budget friendly and quality health care amongst low income communities in Uganda particularly within Entebbe Municipality, in Wakiso district. Together with Harambee Africa International Foundation, Dr. Kyamummi Irene is working towards utilizing resources pooled collectively in order to push the agenda of providing equitable health care to the most vulnerable populations in Uganda.

CHEP’s core activities include but are not limited to mobile clinics, student mentorship, and community health education. Since its inception in 2020, the Child Health Project has experienced a steady growth in the mobile clinics and continues to achieve its primary objective of providing child health care, community health education and the mentorship of medical students and young professionals.
